Character Information
Name: Colonel Frank Archer
Canon: Fullmetal Alchemist (2003 anime)
Canon Point: After the array is activated in Liore, post episode 42 (but before Archer is fit with the automail).
Age: 37 (headcanon, there's no canon information at all)
Gender: Male
History: FMA Wiki. All of the information here applies - though it is worth mentioning that in the first anime the city is named "Liore" instead of "Reole." There are several differences between the first anime and the manga/Brotherhood when it comes to the names of places and people - I will be using the dub of the first anime for these. A very important one is Zolf J. Kimbley - his name is spelled this way in the first anime and spelled "Solf J. Kimblee" in the manga. I'll be using the former, since that's the version Archer is familiar with.
Personality: Archer's personality depends on who you are, or rather, if you're in a position of power or not. To his superiors he's a charming, hard-working officer with a more reserved look on government and society at large. To anyone he doesn't consider useful, he's a complete jerk. The two sides don't seem to properly fit together until one realizes that Archer is a cunning manipulator. His smarts lead him to believe he's superior to everyone, including those he's quite charming toward. Even if he must push his ego aside, it's only for a limited time. Archer doesn't seem to hold a high level of respect for the Fuhrer (due to the fact that he knows the Fuhrer is a Homunculus; something that immediately gives him an edge over the Fuhrer), and is often contrary to the point of defiance in discussion with him. He shows less and less respect toward his superior officers as the series goes on.
War is Archer's favorite thing. His determination to start a war in Liore is only further proof of this. While war has strengthened his nation in the past, Archer does not seek to start a war for that prospect. He loves strategy and planning, but especially loves the thrill of a fight. Any excuse to kill without reprecussions is one he is willing to take. He passes it off as wanting to be a "war hero" like Mustang, but in reality he simply "likes war," according to one of the soldiers who worked under him. This seems to be common knowledge within the military, but Archer hasn't actually done anything that could be considered illegal. Archer knows his views aren't common and are definitely not normal; he's very careful not to say anything that could get him thrown in prison. Kimbley is the only person he's met who shares any of his beliefs, and he was in prison for ten years for killing his superior officers during the Ishbal War. He obviously doesn't want to end up like Kimbley, and spends the majority of his time attempting to appear normal. While he can pass for normal, he does give off an inherently creepy vibe. He doesn't seem to notice this.
Archer has a severe lack of morals in most areas of life. Society's "morals" concerning life and war scarcely affect him. He's willing to use others as tools to achieve his own ends. He tends to come off as inhumane and cruel when discussing those morals, but it's not entirely without benefit. He can actually argue that without morals to "get in his way" he's not forced to think about "what's right." This makes him (in his opinion) the perfect soldier. His lack of morals make him dangerous, but he would be right at home on the battlefield. Unfortunately (in his opinion), he's never seen battle.
Archer is easily angered and frustrated, but most other emotions are hidden under an outer layer of cool detachment. While he is usually level-headed and takes the time to think his actions through, when he's angry Archer doesn't stop to think. Archer doesn't like showing any weakness whatsoever, and he considers most emotion to be a weakness which can be used against him. Likewise he considers friends to be similar and keeps very few. Allies, on the other hand, are always useful (at least until he decides they aren't, in which case friendy fire is always a suitable option). His cruel ruthlessness both on and off the battlefield are terrifying, leading many to whisper behind his back that he's not only a warmonger but a sadistic, inhumane monster as well. As long as they can't prove it, Archer considers himself safe. He finds it rather ironic that they call him a monster while working for one.
Those that work under him would indeed describe Archer as a monster. He's ruthless when it comes to his officers and works them to the bone. Perfection is expected and even a small mistake (be it grammatical or a numerical error, or perhaps even spelling when Archer's really in a foul mood) can result in severe punishment. His own paperwork is known for being error-free, and he expects the same of his subordinates (even though he is ultimately sure that they are incapable of it). It's more of an ego-booster than anything else (not that he needs one).
Abilities Information
Fighter or Sacrifice?: Sacrifice. Archer is a soldier so he is used to taking orders, but his ultimate goal is to lead troops into battle. He likes giving orders and is relatively good at mobilizing troops to do his bidding. Also he's pretty much powerless in his own world, so giving him power here would be a bad idea.
Canon abilities: Archer comes from a world where alchemy - making things explode, creating flames, fusing two animals together, and yes, turning lead into gold - is highly valued. He can't use alchemy, otherwise he would be using it. While this does hinder him in his own world, it shouldn't pose a problem here in Gora. That said, Archer isn't useless. His skill just aren't necessarily in fighting. Though to be fair, Archer is built like a linebacker and is shown easily throwing other people around once he has the automail (note that he's throwing these guys around without using the automail), so he is capable of fighting, he just doesn't do it very often. Anyway, Archer's skills lie in manipulation, lying, and commanding. He's very smart as well - his boss Maes Hughes was killed by the Homunculi after learning too much about them. Hughes ordered Sheska, his secretary, to destroy all the evidence he had collected to ensure she wouldn't be harmed. Archer took over after Hughes and managed to put things together, then used that to blackmail the Fuhrer, who was a Homunculus. Using this, he managed to get Kimbley and Tucker reinstated to the military and placed under his direct command. He's very skilled at lying to get what he wants as well. All of these skills are obviously not superpowers or anything, so none of them should be toned down any in Gora.

First Person: What is the best way to improve efficiency in these Wordspell battles?
[Oh, hello Gora! Were you expecting to see Archer today? Too bad! He's figured out how to work the network (sort of) and he's getting right down to business.]
My... Fighter has been failing horribly in all our training sessions and I'm starting to wonder if I'm doing something wrong.
[Because really, you'd think he'd choose a powerful Fighter. Something is obviously wrong with his, and it's not Archer himself. But he'll ask just to look polite!]
I've already combed through the library, but everything I've found has so far proved useless. Am I missing something?
[The cat ears twitch a little, and Archer moves to touch one of them thoughtfully.]
I'd also appreciate an explanation as to why we have cat ears. I understand that they can be removed...?
[Another pause, before Archer reaches to turn off the communication feed.]
Thank you for your help in advance.

Third Person: Archer has found a cat. Normally this would result in him feeding it in secret for quite some time before he finally gave in and took the poor thing home, but things are different here. He's sporting cat ears and a tail here, and he's not entirely sure just what he's looking at. It's a domestic cat, obviously, but he was under the impression that the people here were the domestic cats - admittedly humanoid versions of them or something, but...
"So there are cats here." He muses aloud. Interesting. Archer kneels to pet the cat, holding out a hand for the little black kitten to come closer. She studies him for a moment before trotting over and sniffing at his hand. She seems to find him safe enough and rubs against his knee, purring.
He's always loved cats. He had several different cats while he was growing up, and though he hadn't kept any as pets back home, he had tended to the strays that roamed the neighborhood. That crazy alchemist had blown up several of them, which still bothered him. If he was going to go after animals, why couldn't he go after the neighbor's annoying dogs...?
That doesn't matter now. Kimbley is dead back home - but that doesn't matter either, does it? Archer's here now. He's not back home. It's entirely possible that he's dead. He saw the array go off and he's pretty sure it caught him in it... But there's no such thing as an afterlife, right? So what is this place?
"It's not something to worry about now." He nods slightly to himself; the words help a little. The kitten rubbing against his knee is helping a lot more though, and Archer finally moves to scoop her up. She latches onto his uniform and mews quietly in protest. He doesn't particularly care if "Gora" or whatever it's called has some sort of rule against keeping pets. Right now he could use a little companion to keep his mind off the loneliness.
